This workshop introduces the anicent pansori storytelling tradition from Korea.
SUMMARY OF WORKSHOP:
- Video on pansori outlining its history and showcasing some pansori performers
- Greeting and getting ready to appreciate a pansori performance
- Storytelling of “Chunhyang-ga” in the pansori tradition
- Sanjo and more stories about pansori – listening to Sanjo, instrumental pansori (CD) and appreciating the value of pansori stories
- Just do it pansori – Let’s learn a song from Chunhyang-ga. Tell a small part of the story and sing a song (using a video)
- Question & Answer session
What to expect:
- Participants will be exposed to more information about an important style of oral literature from Korea.
- Participants will be able to listen to and watch a Korean storyteller using this traditional art form.
Learning:
- Understand pansori storytelling tradition
- Discuss the value of pansori; not only from the aspect of Korean traditional music genre, but also from the aspect of Korean traditional oral literature
- Learn a song from pansori Chunhyang-ga and perform a small part of it
