Rosemarie Somaiah (Singapore)

Rosemarie Somaiah is a partner with Asian Storytelling Network, Singapore’s first professional storytelling company. She has worked extensively with storytelling in a wide range of environments in Singapore and led the Storytellers’ Circle of the Society for Reading and Literacy (SRL) for many years. Over the years, her workshops for volunteers, teachers and adults at different levels have been much appreciated for her ability to weave different perspectives together in a holistic manner. She has been commissioned to create original stories as well as to reshape or interpret other stories for print and performance. Rosemarie made significant contributions in conceptualising and organising workshops for teachers to build their storytelling and pedagogical skills in delivering recommended curriculum such as the Ministry of Education’s STELLAR Strategies for English Language Learning and Reading) programme from 2011 to 2013.

Rosemarie has participated in various international festivals including the Scottish International Storytelling Festival, the Beverley and East Riding Folk Festival and the Man Hong Kong International Literary Festival. She presented a paper on ‘The Changing Role of Story in Singapore – A storyteller reflects’ at the 1st Asia-Oceania IBBY Regional Congress in Bali from 23-26th May 2013.
