Muriel Bloch (France)

A storyteller and writer, Muriel lives in Paris and has told stories since 1979, when she led a workshop at the Centre Georges Pompidou and was caught by the art of storytelling.

Muriel has an eclectic repertoire and tells to all audiences. She recycles traditional tales in her own style and as well as creating tales of her own invention. Muriel also tells stories accompanied by live music, having worked with solo singers, jazz quintets, and les Trois 8, and the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France. She has also begun storytelling projects with libraries in each district of Paris to share her taste for urban tales.

She has travelled to many countries to share her work, through her workshops and performances and has organised events in Paris with storytellers from all over the world. Muriel was involved in the production of the documentary “Il était une fois des conteurs” (Storytellers…Once Upon a Time) in 2001 and spearheads many initiatives for the promotion of performance art and storytelling in Paris. She has published 30 children’s books and CDs, mainly folktales from Russia, Brazil, the Balkans, Cuba, Africa and Jewish stories.

Muriel is now occupied with collecting urban stories. She would like storytelling to reflect the new way of life, living in cities. She loves to experiment and improvise and takes the chance to try her hand at something new when the opportunity arises.
