Kamini Ramachandran (Singapore/Malaysia)

Kamini Ramachandran co-founded MoonShadow Stories ten years ago to revive the lost art of the oral narrative tradition. MoonShadow Stories focuses on adult audiences because she believes that once the beauty and wonder of the spoken word is reintroduced to adults, then children will benefit. Hence, MoonShadow Stories were the first contemporary storytellers in Singapore to spearhead storytelling for adults.

She is a curator and storyteller with enormous stage presence and respect for the traditions of oral literature. Drawing on her extensive knowledge of stories and the storytelling craft, Kamini has provided customized storytelling consultancy services for a variety of festivals, museums, educational institutions and organizations. She has been commissioned to research and create storytelling content for animation projects, folklore publications as well as curated museum exhibitions. Her work involves collaborations with musicians, visual artists, counsellors, dancers, writers, puppeteers, local communities and explorations in faith.

She has been a featured storyteller at the Scottish International Storytelling Festival, keynote speaker at the inaugural Chennai Storytelling Festival, participated in the Sydney International Storytelling Conference, invited to present workshops and performances at the Rome International Storytelling Festival and Festival at the Edge in U.K. and a regular artiste at the Singapore Writers Festival. Kamini also participated in the Federation for European Storytelling annual conference.

A founding member and four-term president (2008-2012) of the Storytelling Association (Singapore), she is also Artistic Director for the Singapore International Storytelling Festival. Kamini teaches her annual course The Storytelling Intensive to performance arts students at college level and has celebrated World Storytelling Day in Singapore since 2005.
