Clare-Coburn-detail

Clare Coburn (Australia)

Educator, writer and mediator, Clare has studied and worked with the International School of Storytelling in East Sussex, UK, in South Africa and in Australia to hone her skills and passion. Her undergraduate studies were in speech therapy, and she went on to study Italian and linguistics, education, conflict resolution and storytelling. Clare has worked in diverse settings including corporate, not-for-profit, and education from primary schools to universities. She was awarded a PhD for her research on listening in mediation.

She awoke to the enchantment of stories as an adult while training and working as a Steiner teacher where learning is seasoned with story. She now works with communication, empathy and listening as well as story.

Clare now brings these fields together through educating, counselling and writing about the themes of greater consciousness in our ways of relating together. She teaches at La Trobe and RMIT universities in Melbourne and is a regular visitor to New Zealand to present workshops there. Whether presenting at professional conferences, performing at festivals and events, teaching law students about conflict resolution or helping new storytellers to release their natural capacity, Clare is fascinated by the role of listening, imagination and creativity and our need to be alert to wisdom from fresh sources.
