Defining Digital Storytelling by Denise
Atchley
Digital Storytelling is about creating a personal digital story that is
not purely an acquisition of facts, but learning how to make the facts
alive – a journey of personal expression. Every individual, every
home, every community, why, for that matter every corporate entity has
a story to tell; except that 1) these stories lie buried, incoherent or
mute, in photos, albums, documents, presentations, video-clips and speeches,
2) everyone may not have the skills or the talent to "tell"
a gripping story and 3) everyone hasn't had the benefit of training or
even the experience to write a script and then productionize the material
into a succinct yet captivating story. But all that is now set to change
with Digital Storytelling. Denise Atchley, the Co-Founder and Director
of The Digital Storytelling Festival™ in the U.S., will deliver
an interesting talk on this new and exciting concept - discussing the
roots of the movement and showing examples of digital storytelling work
and explanation of various uses of digital storytelling (business, education,
personal, etc.).

Nurturing and Optimizing the Craft of Storytelling:
Exchanging Perspectives with the Singapore Flim Community by James
Bonnet
At the
current, extremely exciting stage of Singapore’s film production
industry development, one of the critical success factors identified is
the ability to tell good stories well. The local film community could
not ask for a better resource person than master storyteller James Bonnet,
who, in this important public talk, will explain the importance of storytelling
in the cinema domain, and review the essential elements that all great
stories have in common and the things that make them unique. James will
also share his insights into contemporary developments and issues in screenwriting,
and debunk some of the myths (plus clarify many of the facts) about the
creative development process. This talk will also be a unique opportunity
to hear about successes and failures from around the world, and the key
learning experiences arising from them. James will provide case studies
of selected seminal works, as well as advice to young and aspiring screenwriters.
This is one talk that all involved and / or interested in Singapore filmmaking
cannot afford to miss!
