You are invited to enter a
very special and enchanted world at the 1st Singapore International
Storytelling Festival (SISF). This 10-day Festival celebrates
live storytelling by the best of Singapore and international storytellers.
They will delight you with an exciting array of tales from around the
world. Singapore�s classical violinist Min Lee joins the storytellers,
weaving live music, art and the spoken word into a unique fantasy collage�.
In addition, we are
also proud to present �Sayang Singapore�, a pre-Festival programme
featuring a collection of stories dedicated to Singapore in celebration
of National Day.

PRE-FESTIVAL PROGRAMME
Sayang Singapore
An endearing collection of tales and myths about our beloved island to
commemorate Singapore�s National Day. These stories, delivered by Singapore�s
finest storytellers, will tug at our heartstrings, and remind us what
a special place Singapore is � a place we fondly call home.
Suitable for adults and children aged 7years and above.
Dates: 11 - 13 August;
Times: 3.00pm (matinee) & 7.30pm (evening);
Venue: Gallery Theatre, National Museum of Singapore,
Stamford Road;
Tickets at S$12 (matinee) and S$15 (evening). Special rates and discounts

1. Asian Congress of Storytellers
Explore the power and magic of storytelling with acclaimed international
storytellers and their Singaporean counterparts. Teachers, librarians,
students, working professionals and aspiring storytellers will have the
opportunity to share and learn new skills and knowledge from expert storytellers
of Europe, UK, USA and Singapore.

2. The Storytellers
Showcase
Cherished fables and legendary tales come alive at the Showcase! Renowned
international storytellers such as Folke
Tegetthoff (Austria), Antonio
Rocha (Brazil), Bernice Hune
(Canada), Doug Lipman (USA), Cat
Weatherill (UK) and Daniel Morden
(UK) team up with Singaporean storytellers to present a variety of intriguing
and delightful stories.
Suitable for adults and children aged 7years and above.

3. Art & Soul
| A Singapore premier of The Fairy�s Kiss by violinist Min Lee
Passion! Seduction! Deceit! Murder! Music, live painting and
drama combine in a fantasy collage illuminating the full spectrum of human
emotions.
Singapore�s �poster girl�
of classical music, Min Lee teams with one of UK�s leading storyteller
Daniel Morden, pianist Gordon Back (UK) and artist Holly Carr (Canada)
to bring you treasured tales from the ballet and opera : �The Fairy�s
Kiss� (Stravinsky), "Orpheus" (Gluck), �Faust� (Gounod) and
�Carmen�.

4. Connections: Teaching
Science through Stories Workshop by
Dr AP Jayaraman and Ms Chuah Ai Lin
Stories! Science! Together? It�s true�a hands-on workshop that provides
science teachers with an innovative classroom tool to create and invigorate
student interest in science. Teachers will learn elements of storytelling
and appreciate the protocol of creating science stories for class use.

5. Connections: Teaching
Mathematics through Stories Workshop by
Professor S Sivadas and Ms Rosemarie Somaiah
This workshop demonstrates how carefully crafted stories can serve as
tools for teaching mathematics. Mathematics teachers will be introduced
to a fantasy world of numbers in which the making and breaking of numbers
is a creative adventure. These stories may be presented as dramatized
skits; they help develop language skills and aesthetics; and embedded
in the stories are values vital to life-skills.

8. Storytelling for
Effective Management Workshop by Doug Lipman
Storytelling is the
fundamental task of leaders and hence an important skill to acquire. It
equips the manager with an additional mode of communication besides the
more familiar "give the bullet-points, explain the graph, cut to
the chase" modes which we are accustomed to. This workshop will focus
on how to harness the magic of storytelling for effective communication
and management.

Ethnic Tales
Chinese, Malay and Tamil story tellers make their Singapore debut with
stories from their motherland.

Special programmes for schools and corporations to meet their unique needs
