Journalism Workshop

Duration 1 hour
Equipment Classroom lab with computers with writing software.
Activity Students will get into pairs to discuss topics that will be presented to them. As this is for voicing, they need to suggest areas with good audio. The topics will be presented to them. At the end of workshop, students will have a ready-made script for Radio Broadcast.
Participants Secondary school students (in groups of two). Strictly not more than 14 students per school.
Time Activity
10 mins Introduction
Lecturer will give them a brief as to what to do and expectations. They will be presented topics and will be guided on how to conduct their discussions.
50 mins Discussion
Students proceed in pairs to discuss the topics chosen. Lecturer will act as the mentor to guide them.
Lecturer will quickly ask each group to present their ideas.
Once done, they will then proceed to the radio studio for voicing.

Radio Workshop

Duration 2 hours
Equipment LAWO Crystal radio console and Netia AirDDO broadcasting software
Activity Students will learn how to run a basic radio show by “paneling” using state-of-the-art equipment like the LAWO Crystal radio console and how to present like a radio DJ using the Netia AirDDO broadcasting software. Students bring in script from Journalism workshop for voicing.
Participants Ideally, groups should not exceed 14 students due to the size of the Radio Presentation Room.
Time Activity
5 mins Introduction
Students will be divided into groups from previous journalism class.
5 mins Explanation and Demonstration
Demonstration on paneling the LAWO radio console using Netia AirDDO software.
Demonstration on how to use a studio microphone properly, and how to read scripts like a real radio announcer/DJ.
60 mins Rehearsal
Each group will be taken through how to present their capsules using the aforementioned radio equipment & software.
50 mins Final Recording
Each group will do their final recording, which will be taped for final broadcast on YouTube.
