Competition Details

What format must my story be produced in?

The story we are looking for must be in a digital format. What this means is that the submissions can be in the form of a film, a slideshow, audio podcast or any other digital media format that can tell a story with visuals and sound, suitable for digital broadcast on the Internet. All formats must be converted to a digital file for uploading on to YouTube.

What format must my story be if I submit in the Radio Journalism category?

All digital audio stories are to be converted into a digital film file with a still black clip highlighting title of story, name of school, names of contestants and teacher-in-charge throughout the film.

How long does my story have to be?

Your stories should be between 1 minute and 3 minutes in length.

How many student members should there be in one entry?

3 student participants and 1 teacher facilitator must accompany each submission except for Radio Journalism category where there are only 2 student participants and 1 teacher facilitator. The teacher facilitator can facilitate more than one submission. Each school can submit only 5 entries.

When do I submit?

After the Creative Workshops, you have till 21st November 2013 to complete your digital story. During this time, should you encounter any questions, please feel free to contact us at [email protected] and we will be glad to help you with your submission.

How do I submit the application? Where do I upload video?

Contestants can fill in an online application form and submit their film/digital stories via a Web-based secure digital file delivery website (e.g. WeTransfer or Hightail) to [email protected]. The e-MOTE Storytelling Competition committee will upload the stories on the e-Mote YouTube channel. Please fill in the correct category by ticking the appropriate box — whether it’s Film, Radio or Digital Visual Effects — before you submit the online form. All contestants are to check their download links for transfer compliance. The committee is not responsible for incomplete downloads.

How will I know that I’m a finalist?

All finalists will receive an invitation to attend the Awards Ceremony. The e-MOTE committee will upload your stories into the “e-MOTE Digital Storytelling Competition” YouTube channel. The copyright clearances of all clips are the responsibility of the contestants. You do not need to upload the videos on your own.

The winners will be announced at the Awards Ceremony. All participating schools will be notified of the results of the qualifying rounds via email by end-December 2013. The Awards Ceremony will be held in January 2014.
